What is Solar Racing?
Solar Car Racing refers to international engineering competitions of electric vehicles. Teams from universities around the world design, develop, test, and race specialized vehicles that are powered entirely by solar energy. These events focus on providing intense hands-on engineering experience to students while pushing the development of cutting-edge transportation and energy technologies.
America’s two largest races are the American Solar Challenge and the Formula Sun Grand Prix. FSGP is an annual event that includes three days of track racing and func- tions as the qualifier for the ASC. The American Solar Challenge is a long-distance, road rally-style race that takes teams on a 2,000+ mile route across the U.S. In 2018, the ASC ran from Omaha, Nebraska to Bend, Oregon.
